Alabama deadline guide

Alabama sales tax due dates for accounting firms.

Organize Alabama monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual sales tax filings with the correct period, payment cutoff, owner, and proof.

How Alabama sales tax deadlines work.

Alabama state sales tax is generally due monthly on or before the 20th day of the month following the month of activity. Eligible taxpayers may request quarterly, semiannual, or annual status based on prior-year tax liability and other conditions. A change in status must be approved rather than assumed.

Filing frequencyStandard timing
Monthly20th day of the month following the reporting month.
Quarterly20th day of the month following the calendar quarter.
SemiannualJuly 20 and January 20 for standard half-year periods.
AnnualJanuary 20 following the reporting year.
Planning note: Electronic payment information must generally be transmitted by 4:00 p.m. Central time on or before the due date. Alabama also requires returns for registered periods with no sales or tax due.

Build the client workflow before the due date.

The legal deadline is the last step. Set an earlier request date for source reports, then reserve time for reconciliation, exception review, return preparation, approval, and payment. Each obligation should identify the client, state account, reporting period, assigned frequency, preparer, reviewer, and payment owner.
